WHAT YOU CAN DO!
IN YOUR COMMUNITY ...
Volunteer.
Bridging the Gap, an environmental not-for-profit based in Kansas City, Missouri, has numerous initiatives underway that depend on the help of volunteers. A number of volunteer opportunities involve events and activities on the Kansas side of the region. To learn more about how you can get involved, click here .
Support local agriculture.
There are a number of places in Johnson County where you can buy fruits and vegetables from local growers. Locally-grown produce tends to be fresher than typical grocery store fare, and because it doesn't have to travel as far to reach you, it generates less air pollution. Check the SkyCast.
July and August bring the greatest potential for elevated concentrations of ground-level ozone, a pollutant that irritates the lungs and respiratory passages. The SkyCast is the region's daily ozone forecast. When unhealthy ozone concentrations are expected, local residents are asked to reduce polluting activities and to take precautions to protect their health. You can make a big difference by driving less and avoiding polluting activities like lawn-mowing on high ozone days. To learn more, click here .
